Cheesy Popover Ring

Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, finely diced

Recipe

  • 1 bring water, butter, salt and pepper to a boil in a saucepan. add flour quickly, all at once, beating with a wooden spoon until mixture forms a ball that leaves the sides of the pan.
  • 2 remove from heat and add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. ( mixture will separate as each egg is added to it ).
  • 3 set aside 2 tablespoons diced cheddar cheese; stir remaining cheese into the flour mixture.
  • 4 drop dough, by rounded teaspoonfuls ( about 11 ) onto a greased baking sheet to form an 8" ring, leaving a 2 1/2 to 3 inch diameter hole in center.
  • 5 sprinkle reserved cheese over the top.
  • 6 bake at 425 f for 50 to 55 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.
  • 7 serve hot.
