Brown Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • Servings: 16
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg, beaten

Recipe

  • 1 in a bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/4 t. salt.
  • 2 cut in butter.
  • 3 combine 1 egg and buttermilk and add to flour mixture; stir till just moistened.
  • 4 on a lightly floured surface, knead gently for 12 strokes.
  • 5 on a greased baking sheet, shape dough into a 6-in. round loaf.
