Black Forest Oatmeal Crisps

Total Time: 2 hrs 25 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 2 hrs 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter flavor shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 6 (1 ounce) chocolate baking squares, chopped or 1 cup vanilla chip
  • 1 1/2 cups candied red cherries, chopped
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds

Recipe

  • 1 in a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugars.
  • 2 add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • 3 beat in milk and extract.
  • 4 combine flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • 5 stir in the remaining ingredients.
  • 6 drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • 7 bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 8 remove to wire racks to cool.
