Buttermilk Cutouts

Total Time: 23 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 8 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening, see note
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Recipe

  • 1 in a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  • 2 cream together sugar, butter, shortening, eggs and vanilla until light.
  • 3 add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk.
  • 4 add more flour if needed.
  • 5 refrigerate until well chilled.
  • 6 roll to desired thickness (approx. 1/4-in) and cut.
  • 7 bake at 350° for 8 minutes.
  • 8 be careful not to over bake.
  • 9 frost and enjoy.
  • 10 *i have also made with all butter and all shortening, i like half and half the best.
