Buttermilk Cutouts

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening, see note
- 2 large eggs
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup buttermilk
Recipe
- 1 in a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
- 2 cream together sugar, butter, shortening, eggs and vanilla until light.
- 3 add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk.
- 4 add more flour if needed.
- 5 refrigerate until well chilled.
- 6 roll to desired thickness (approx. 1/4-in) and cut.
- 7 bake at 350° for 8 minutes.
- 8 be careful not to over bake.
- 9 frost and enjoy.
- 10 *i have also made with all butter and all shortening, i like half and half the best.
