Buttermilk Fantails

Ingredients
- 10 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup well-shaken buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
Recipe
- 1 stir together water, yeast, sugar. let sit 5 minutes (until foamy).
- 2 mix flour, salt, buttermilk, and 6 tsp melted butter into yeast mixture.
- 3 knead until elastic and smooth (6 to 8 minutes).
- 4 oil top and bottom of dough and place in a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- 5 let rise until doubled (1.5 to 2 hours).
- 6 punch dough down and cut in half.
- 7 roll out 1/2 of dough to make a 12x12 square.
- 8 cut square into 6 equal strips.
- 9 butter the strips, then stack them on top of each other.
- 10 cut stack into 6 equal parts.
- 11 butter muffin pan and place rolls into muffin pan.
- 12 repeat steps 8 through 13 for other half of dough.
- 13 fan out tops of rolls.
- 14 cover with towel and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
- 15 preheat oven to 375.
- 16 back rolls until golden, 20 to 25 minutes.
- 17 brush tops with melted butter before serving.
