Casserole Of Steak Wine & Mushrooms

Total Time: 2 hrs 15 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 kg boneless beef cubes
  • 300 g brown button mushrooms
  • 25 ml sunflower oil
  • 100 g butter
  • 2 cubed onions
  • 2 teaspoons mashed garlic
  • 50 ml flour
  • 250 ml red wine
  • 250 ml beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon prepared hot mustard
  • 2 ml dried thyme
  • 2 ml origanum
  • 2 ml dried basil
  • 125 ml puree tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 pinch brown sugar
  • chopped parsley

Recipe

  • 1 saute onions and set aside.
  • 2 saute mushrooms briefly and set aside.
  • 3 combine flour pepper salt in a plastic bag.
  • 4 add beef chunks and shake bag until beef has a flour coating.
  • 5 remove beef and shake off excess flour.
  • 6 brown the beef in butter and oil mixture in small batches until slightly crispy.
  • 7 place the browned beef in a ovenproof casserole dish and add sauteed onions.
  • 8 combine the following ingredients and stir into the casserole.
  • 9 wine, stock, herbs, mustard tomato puree and a pinch of sugar.add a little extra boiling water to the casserole to barely cover the food.
  • 10 bake in 160c oven for 1hr 15min. add the musfhrooms and continue to bake for another 30 minute.
